CHI YAU SAEK

FREESTYLE MARTIAL ARTS

History.........

Chi Yau Saek Martial Arts and Fitness Schools was formed in 1991, and comprises of fighting techniques taken from a range of marial arts including Kickboxing, Kung Fu, J.K.D., Judo and Ninjutsu...to name a few.

John Neale.........Chief Instructor and Founder of the style,  started martial arts training while in the British Army.  Training in unarmed combat and close quarter protection. After leaving the army I started training with Clive Parkinson in LAU GAR Kung Fu.  Clive at that time was the current World Champion in Semi Contact fighting.

After 2 years training in that style I wanted to try something 'full contact'. During my years at Lau Gar I became good friends with Simon Hengle a 6th Dan Kickboxer, who also ran a martial arts shop. He agreed to take me on as a private student.  Simon was also very proficient in Kenjutsu and Kukri arts.

So 6.00 am I began training with Simon.  Simon's kicking ability was amazing, this prompted me to train harder as this is how I wanted to be able to kick. We'd start the training sessions off by doing 500 chin choku giri with the bokken. - [my arms ached!] .

While training with Simon I met Ashley Davidson a local Ninjutsu Instructor, he was also doing some training with Simon. We got together a few times and trained 'eachother' in our styles.

I became very interested in different techniques from other styles of martial arts. Eventually I received my Blackbelt from Simon Hengle. It was Simon who suggested I sit down a write a syllabus, incorporating all that I knew and was interested in. After many changes! Simon sanctioned the syllabus and I opened up a club and began to teach.

One of my most memorable occasions was having the chance to train with the great Bill Wallis.... this is something I will never forget.

Over the last 17 years the style has had a few changes due to other influences from styles and martial artists. The style was improved when Gary Gregary join us from a JKD club. I trained him in kicking techniques and in return he showed me a few techniques in JKD.

Due to a change of direction the club left Simons Tora Martial Arts Association and joined the BCA under Geoff Thompson and Peter Consterdine.
