The next grading will be the last 2 weeks in

All grading applications must be handed in 1 week BEFORE the grading date. You MUST have an up to date licence before you can grade.

What is a Grading

A grading is an assessment of skills that you have learnt from your Instructor and Syllabus sheet.

Why do I need to grade?

In order to learn new skills and techniques you have to pass an assessment. Passing this assessment enables you to move on to learn more difficult techniques.

What do I need to grade?

To grade you will need a valid licence and a club GI (uniform). You will also be required to fill in a grading application form and hand it to the John or Geoff at least a week prior to the grading.  Please ensure that this form is filled in completely and correctly, this includes signing it.

How will I know if I should grade?

Basically it's up to you if you want to grade. Instructors will help you with your training but cannot advise you as it might be deemed misleading. You will grade when YOU feel ready.

What happens on the grading?

On arrival you will be booked in by the grading supervisor. You will be warmed up by an Instructor, then given a chance to go through your syllabus before you grade. You will then be graded by a grading panel (normally this will be club Instructors). They will take notes on your performance, discuss with each other what they have seen, and then decide if you have passed.

What if I do not achieve the standard to pass?

Nobody likes to be unsuccessful but it does happen. It does not mean you can’t be successful next time. With the belt system we now have in place for Juniors, they will be assessed on how much knowledge they have assimilated since the last grading, their behaviour, attendance etc.  If it is deemed that they have worked hard and have got the basics, then they may be awarded a tag on their present grade of belt.  but this is not automatic.  It is very important that you attend regular training sessions. Green belts and above should be training twice a week!

Cost

The cost of a licence is £16.00. Any and all licences presented at a grading MUST be filled in correctly, that means all sections filled in and it must be signed, a passport photograph is also required, this is so we don't have to guess which name goes with which face.  If you let your licence fall out of date you will be charge an extra £5.00, this is due to extra admin to rush your licence through.  YOUR LICENCE IS YOUR INSURANCE, NO LICENCE, NO INSURANCE, NO GRADING.

The cost of a grading is currently £20.00.  Should you be successful you will receive a belt to the standard graded for and a certificate, you will also be noted on the BRITISH COMBAT ASSOCIATION database at that grade.

Should you have a valid reason for grading separately on a different date to the published date for grading, speak to John as soon as possibly

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask one of the Instructors.
